Class Reflection

Overall I feel this English class has been one of the most enjoyable for me out of every English class I’ve taken. While I don’t really enjoy writing essays, being able to choose, for the most part, what subject I was going to be writing about was a relief. There’s few things I enjoy less than writing a multiple page essay about a book I was forced to read. Having that choice did improve my confidence in writing a bit. Writing about Pokemon and finding that I have managed to write almost three pages with little effort is not something I’m used to.

I found the multi-modal approach of the class to also be quite refreshing compared to my previous English class experiences. I will almost always choose programming something (a webpage, video game, etc.) over writing an essay. Writing a blog gave me a bit of insight into the amount of effort that many bloggers around the world put into them, and how if you start to get behind the work piles up faster and faster. I did find it pretty enjoyable though. Like before, getting to write about something I enjoy. And having an incentive to spend my time creating something rather than just watching videos or playing games.

I feel that I will probably for a large part forget about the smaller pieces of argument that we went over in the class. However, I also feel that the in depth analyses have improved my understanding of argument, rhetoric, and some of the major differences within those. And in my everyday life I will be able to better utilize those in arguments with people.

  1. Ah, well. I wish I could have gotten some of that enjoyment expressed more openly in class! Either way, it’s nice to know now. Thanks for actually engaging in the blog. My goal was only to get you to write regularly and find something worth writing regularly about. It’s what writers do. So, thank again!
